Updated Requirements Make Transferring to MBU Even Easier

June 17, 2020

Mary Baldwin University has streamlined the process of transferring to the university for students who have earned an associate degree from the Virginia Community College system (VCCS).

Transfer students can now meet all of their MBU general education requirements by holding an associate of arts, associate of science, associate of applied science in nursing, or other approved transferable associate degree from any regionally accredited college.

The change formally acknowledges the value of an associate degree in equipping students with foundational skills in writing, research, and analysis.

After these students enter MBU, they can immediately focus on courses that count toward their major and help advance their career, as well as explore minor or certificate options.

For students who are transferring to MBU without an associate degree, Mary Baldwin also has a new, more flexible general education curriculum with a core of 36 credits (12 courses). These changes apply both to MBU Online and the residential program on MBU’s main campus in Staunton.

The VCCS courses listed on MBU’s transfer student webpage will continue to meet general education requirements. The university also accepts prior learning, College Level Examination Program (CLEP), and American Council on Education (ACE) credit.
